NEW SCHOOL AND A MINI-BRIDGE FOR ETHENIC CHILDREN, NAM GIANG MOUNTAINEOUS DISTRICT, QUANG NAM PROVIN
Nam Giang, a mountainous district of Quang Nam Province, is certified as one of the poorest districts in Vietnam. It is 70 kilometres southwest from Da Nang City and 120 kilometres northwest from Tam Ky City. Nam Giang has a total population of approximately 24,500 inhabitants, most of whom are the Co-tu ethnic people, dwelling in 63 villages of 12 communes.
Information shared by Da Nang Hope Club on their facebook page dated the 28th of February 2017 about a program titled ‘Lade, The Heart of Mountain, 2017’ shows the appeal of helping the ethnic pupils of inter-commune Ladéé school at the Kông-tơ-Rơn village, Ladêê commune, Nam Giang district, Quang Nam Province. This appeal was illustrated with six photos of a run-down school and a tiny wooden chain-bridge - which may not be able to withstand the wind for long. Requested by Từ Hòa-CICG, the IT members of Danang Hope Club were happy to confirm the truth of these data.
To reinforce these data, Từ Hòa-CICG requested an acquaintance of ours currently working at Nam Giang district to conduct an investigation on 14th of March, 2017. He took some photos of the whole schools and photos of the bridge which were attached to this letter.
After examining the data from the Superlight Houses on the prefabricated three-room school and from the ‘Schools for Dream’ Group (SDG) on the same issue, an estimate of 225 million VNDs for the construction of four classrooms including a teachers’ room is anticipated. In reference to Mr. Ba Dat’s record in building 200 prefabricated mini-bridges (cheap and long-lasting – 20 years or longer) all over Vietnam, the price in constructing such a bridge is estimated to be 45-70 million VNDs. Therefore the total of these two prices could be over 270 -295 million VNDs.
